Tour Description
The Kilimanjaro 6-day Marangu route follows a similar path as the 5-day route but includes an additional day for acclimatization. This extra day allows trekkers to adjust more gradually to the altitude, increasing the chances of a successful summit attempt. The 6-day itinerary typically follows the same route as the 5-day version, with overnight stays in mountain huts along the way. The slower pace and extra acclimatization day make the 6-day Marangu route a popular choice for those seeking a more comfortable ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Your adventure begins at Marangu Gate, the starting point for the Marangu route. After completing registration and formalities, you'll start your trek through lush rainforest. The trail gradually ascends, winding through the dense vegetation. Along the way, you may encounter various flora and fauna native to the region. After several hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop. Mandara Hut provides basic accommodations in A-frame huts and offers a serene setting for rest and relaxation.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Today's trek takes you further into the mountain's foothills as you continue through the rainforest zone and into the heath and moorland zone. The trail gradually steepens, and the scenery transitions from lush forest to open vistas. You'll pass through rolling hills and ancient lava formations before reaching Horombo Hut, your next overnight stop. Situated at a higher altitude, Horombo Hut offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and serves as a crucial acclimatization point.
Day 3: Horombo Hut (Acclimatization Day)
Today is designated as an acclimatization day to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude. You'll remain at Horombo Hut and have the option to embark on a day hike to Zebra Rocks or explore the area around the hut. The day hike provides an opportunity to gain elevation and offers stunning views of the mountain and surrounding terrain. Back at Horombo Hut, you'll have time to rest and prepare for the challenges ahead.
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Leaving Horombo Hut behind, you'll ascend further towards the alpine desert zone. The trail becomes steeper as you climb higher, and the vegetation becomes sparse. You'll pass by landmarks such as the Last Water Point and the Saddle, a vast plateau situated between Kilimanjaro's peaks. Eventually, you'll reach Kibo Hut, your final base camp before the summit attempt. Here, you'll rest and prepare for the challenging ascent ahead, ensuring you're mentally and physically ready for the summit push.
Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (summit) to Horombo Hut
The summit bid begins in the early hours of the morning, typically around midnight, to ensure you reach the summit in time for sunrise. The trail ascends steeply towards Gilman's Point, located on the crater rim, before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent. Upon reaching the summit, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment. After celebrating your achievement and capturing memories, you'll begin the descent back to Kibo Hut for a brief rest. From there, you'll continue the descent to Horombo Hut, where you'll spend your final night on the mountain.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate and Departure
On your final day, you'll descend from Horombo Hut through the heath and moorland zones, eventually reaching the lush rainforest once again. The descent offers a chance to reflect on your journey and enjoy the scenery one last time. Upon reaching Marangu Gate, you'll sign out and receive your summit certificates, marking the official end of your Kilimanjaro expedition. From there, you'll transfer back to your accommodations, where you can rest and celebrate your achievement.
